Lizz and Esther met for a holiday lunch with our book club this past Saturday. We are all "deconstructing" and most of us are "mamas."
The conversation went from Santa to sex to hell to relationships with our SOs to Jesus to making boundaries with our families to what the heck do we do about Christmas now...the music, the message, the good stuff we want to keep and the toxic stuff we hate with a passion and want to throw into a dumpster and light it on fire.
Nothing was overly solved, but there was a lot of listening and "me too"ing and gratitude for the space to process any and all of it.
All our doubts and our questions were welcome. No having to suck it up and pretend "it's all good" and no hiding what is making us really happy as well, the things that make our heart still come alive, even in the middle of the mess.
As we all head into this week, filled with ALL OF IT, this is what is holding us as we put one foot in front of the other. We hope it gives you the glimmers of hope and the whispers of grace that you need.
1. You have permission to be yourself as much as you want to be. You have permission to be vulnerable with those you trust, but NOT "cast your precious pearls" (to coin a Bible phrase - how about that?) to those who are unable to hold a safe space for you.
2. You have permission to talk about Jesus or talk about Santa or not talk about any of it with your people. You have permission to go to church or not go to church. Be prepared to be pressured by whoever and grant yourself the grace to say "yes" or "no" without explanation.
3. You have permission to speak or be silent with your personal well-being at the forefront. Nothing has to get solved (or probably will get solved with those people of yours) this holiday. It's okay to take the long-view approach on this stuff.
4. You have permission to lean into your human birthrights of hope, joy, peace and love and embody them in a way that feels truest to you. Those beautiful gifts are for every single one of us and no one is allowed to tell us otherwise.
We are so thankful for this safe space to share our deconstructing and ever-evolving-and-growing hearts with you. We love you and will be sending good vibes, saying breath prayers, and holding space for all that will meet you this holiday season. We hold hope that your soul would feel its worth in a way that helps you to feel safe, warm and loved. Love,
Lizz and Esther
The Podcast Sneak Peek to Season Three: We are taking a little break for the next few weeks from all things podcast, including this newsletter (for our own mental health and well-being), but will be back in full force come January with our taping, editing and a bunch of surprises that we are keeping close to the vest right now. Season Three is sure to be a good one as our lineup of guests (which will be revealed in January) are already giving us the happy jitters. We feel like kids in a candy store with a bunch of coins in our pockets. It's that wonderful!
