I grew up believing that my body (my flesh) was my enemy. All it wanted was to satisfy cravings that were selfish at best and ungodly at worst.
I ignored it and berated it and tried ever so hard to control it.
Did this work? No.
I found myself burnt out to the point of a nervous breakdown, completely disconnected from its God-given needs, and unable to allow myself the most simplest of pleasures.
I don't believe that anymore. I believe that our bodies are so intimately connected with our souls and that they are to be cared for, nurtured and celebrated.
I've taken on the posture of a listener and a learner, asking it questions or just paying close attention to its needs (or dare I say, even wants).
Hey, you need to go to the bathroom? Yup. We won't wait until we're home just so others are not inconvenienced. We'll stop right now and find a safe place to go.
Feeling jittery this morning? Yup. Okay. We'll give us 10 minutes to do some box breathing even though we have that looming deadline.
Had a rough week? Yup. We'll skip the practice, "tea with cream and sugar only once a week on Sunday morning as a treat" and stop and make one right now on a rainy, chilly Thursday afternoon. And sit there and drink it with our whole self!!!
I never knew that saving my body might save my soul. But if the body keeps the score (I think there's a whole book written about that), then maybe it's a great place to start.
This Week on the Podcast:
“Chronic trauma can overwhelm our internal coping resources. Trauma disrupts the same system that regulates our body’s stress response causing a hyperactive fight-or-flight reaction. It’s not just all in our head. It’s in our bodies too. (Brittany Moses)
Guess what??? The guests on our podcasts this week are...drum roll please... us.
We are closing out Season Four with a conversation with just the two of us. We dive deep into THE STRUGGLE to heal our spiritual trauma and how our bodies have suffered and how reconnecting with our them is a messy, but necessary and beautiful business and vital to our overall journey to heal. The struggle is real, friends. Truly.
We even chat about hell and Christmas and how we are finding ways to resist (both internally and externally) the messages we've received about those two things, plus a whole bunch of others.
We love having our podcast and we are so grateful that you would take the time to listen.
We will be back with a full and amazing line-up in just three months.

Resource Alerts:
We compiled a list of OUR FAVORITE BOOKS from our guests on the podcast and one from the beautiful Rachel Held Evans who was instrumental in both of our evolving faith journeys. We've done the "research" and "vetted" these and trust that they will be exactly what you need to put on your personal list or get as a "something to read" for your kids!
As authors ourselves, we value the importance of words and how they can heal our souls, mostly because when we hear each other's hearts and listen to each other's stories, something mystical takes place inside of our shared humanity and divinity.
Also, exciting news - Esther even has two books included that are brand-spanking new! Happy Perusing!!
Can't wait until Tuesday and need just a little snippet from our podcast episode that's coming up on Tuesday, November 14.
One last thing. We want to remind you that we are so glad you are here. We wouldn't be the same without you. You will always find GRACE for where you've been and who you are now, and SPACE for who you are becoming and will be.
Carry on, our new-found friends. Welcome to the twisty-windy, full -of-adventure faith path that's laid out before us all. Love,
Lizz & Esther
